Academic credit is not available for R Open Labs. However, we are piloting a digital credentials system where participants can receive an R Open Labs badge.

An R Open Labs badge can be used as evidence of the time and effort you will spend learning the R programming language. It can also provide you with extra incentive to follow through with your plans to learn R.

Digital credentials are used to verify skills and proficiencies on professional profiles, and can be used as conversation pieces with potential employers.

R Open Labs badges are earned by devoting time to learning R in an instructional setting and by demonstrating an introductory-level of proficiency through presentations or deliverables. To earn a badge, you will spend at least 20 hours learning R.

How it works

R Open Labs badges are earned using a point system. Participants must meet the minimum number of points for both practice and proficiency, plus additional points to meet the total point requirement. Practice points are acquired by attending instructional and practice sessions. Participants can attend Data Wrangling, R Short Courses and/or R Open Labs. The minimum number of practice points required for a badge is 10.

Proficiency points are acquired by demonstrating proficiency through deliverables. To obtain proficiency points, participants can complete tasks from R Open Labs, present methodologies or tools at an R Open Lab, or use R in project work. The minimum number of proficiency points required for a badge is 5.
